Architectural Sketching: Eye and Image

The Institute for Architectural Research offers basic educational workshops on the fundamental drawing skills required to see and think as an architect.

Analytic Drawing - develop techniques for analyzing exterior space & form through profile, proportion, and scale.

Emotional Drawing - introduction to perspective and tonal drawing.

Classes are open to all levels of experience; there are no requirements for sketchbooks or pencil supplies; please be prepared with your own material.

Students are taught one-on-one by experience architectural sketch artists: Michael Sciarrillo, AIA; Scott Aker, AIA; Corey August and Chloe Rice.

If you would like to buy supplies, the Institute for Architectural Research offers a sketching kit complete with a sketchbook, pencils, erasers — kits are hand delivered at the beginning of each workshop.

Cost of workshop and kits are free for members of the public with low income, this includes students in middle and high school, or students currently enrolled in a University. Approval of free admissions will be review by the board of directors.
